Today I'm heading south to Ho Chi Minh (Saigon) for my final leg of the trip! It seems unreal that I'll be on a plane heading home in three days! I've met such great people on this tour I think I'll be pretty sad to leave.
I'm trying to enjoy my last bit of staying in a quieter town before heading to another major city with motorbikes swarming around everywhere! Yesterday we rode our bikes around the city for a couple of hours, there's some more amaing countryside in Hoi An and it's really close to the beach so we checked that out for a bit too. After our bike ride I went back to the tailors to pick up my coat and my dress and they fit really well! I'd have to recommend anyone that travels to Thailand to stop by the shops and get something custom made, it makes such a difference!
Later in the afternoon a few of us stopped by an orphanage to bring the kids some toys and fruit. I wasn't really sure what to expect but we were told that a lot of the children had some severe disabilities so we we're bracing ourselves. When we walked in we we're greeted by about 20 little kids giving us hugs and holding our hands, they were all so cute! We walked into the room where the infants and disabled children stayed and I have to say I did my best not to break down and cry. Some of the children we're severly disabled and unable to move from their cribs. There was a lot of staff there helping out, feeding and changing the kids but it was just such a hard thing to see. I helped feed water to one of the children who was lying on his stomach and he gulpped it right down and gave me a huge smile! The other kids were running around playing on swingsets and jumpping rope. One guy from our group seemed to have made a friend because one boy didn't leave his side the whole time! The little boy was unable to walk on his own so he used this guy Nick as his personal walker. We only stayed for a little bit, I think we were only able to handle a little bit of time with the kids but I'm glad I went.
Later last night our group signed up for a Vietnamese cooking class which was a great way to end our day! We made some sweet and sour soup, spring rolls, fish cooked in banana leaf, fried morning glory, and papaya salad. Our instructor was really nice and spoke perfect English so it was a really easy course to follow! The recipes we're really easy to follow so HOPEFULLY I'll be able to replicate some when I get home! Now I can specialize in Thai and Vietnamese cuisine!! See, I CAN cook!
This has been a really eventful non-stop trip and I think we're supposed to see some great things in Ho Chi Minh too so I'll just be enjoying my final days here before I head home!
